As part of SLARG’s Research Week ’26, we present an evening connected to Crafting Futures, an interdisciplinary research project exploring how craft knowledge and skills can be revalued in relation to sustainability, innovation, inclusion, lifelong learning and urban transformation.
The evening brings artistic research, craft and cinema together, inviting us to look at making not only as a practical skill, but also as a form of knowledge, cultural heritage and a way of imagining possible futures.
The programme includes a screening of The Blue Caftan (Le Bleu du Caftan; film still below), followed by a conversation around the questions and practices that connect craft, material knowledge and contemporary research.

Crafting Futures is an interdisciplinary project developed by researchers from UAntwerpen and KU Leuven, in collaboration with KASK Ghent, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and Sint Lucas Antwerpen, and with partners from the field of crafts, education, policy and entrepreneurship.
