Lietje Bauwens is a filmmaker, researcher, writer and organizer who works with film as a tool for territorial resistance, studying how strategies of struggle are represented on screen. In her films WTC A Love Story (2020) and WTC A Never-Ending Love Story (2023), made with Wouter De Raeve, she uses film to intervene in debates surrounding the redevelopment of Brussels’ Northern Quarter, investigating both the history and the present state of resistance in the area. With Caillou Filmfest, which she organizes with Lea Vromman, she brings films in this tradition into dialogue with people engaged in, or affected by, territorial struggles. Across projects and publications such as Perhaps It Is High Time for a Xeno-Architecture to Match (Sternberg Press, 2020) and Speculative Facts (Onomatopee, 2022), she has investigated fiction and speculation as research methodologies within spatial and political debates. She has also written extensively on these themes in essays for magazines including Etcetera, Rekto Verso, De Witte Raaf, mister Motley and nY, the literary magazine she is a proud editor of. She finished a Masters in Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam in 2015, was a resident at the Jan van Eyck academy from 2018-2019, and started her PhD in the Arts at Sint Lucas Antwerpen (KdG) and ARIA University of Antwerp) in 2026.
