Az Oor
Researcher
AZ OOR (b. 1992, Aghmat, Morocco) is a visual artist, noisist, storyteller and poet living between Marrakech and Rotterdam. Working through what they call Amazigh Futurism, they weave fiction, history and futurity into speculative worlds rooted in Amazigh knowledge and the lived realities of the Maghreb. Through oral storytelling, archival material, sound and scenographic interventions, their practice explores the entanglements of land, Indigeneity and colonial modernity.
AZ OOR advocates for a right to space-fiction: the right to imagine, produce, refuse and inhabit other worlds. Their work conjures insurgent landscapes, sentient waters, sonic fossils and electric cosmologies, bringing together ancestral memory and unrealised futures to rehearse new forms of coexistence.
AZ OOR is involved in the collective research project A Circle of Birds: On Recomposition as Murmuration, a two-year research project at Sint Lucas Antwerpen (KdG) developed with Joachim Ben Yakoub and Sofyann Ben Youssef.
